Stone head 10

53-55 Wine Street, Bristol
53-55 Wine Street, Bristol

Guardian head on former West of England and South Wales District Bank, Bristol.
Above are the arms of Bristol; either side are figures representing merchant venturers and industry, exactly the customers the bank hoped to attract.
Originally built in the mid 19th century, this now houses a Lloyds TSB branch.
On one side stands Bristol’s Old Council House, on the other used to stand the Bush Inn or Tavern. This coaching inn was mentioned in The Pickwick Papers, Dickens’ first novel.
