Sculpture 13: Tiger Bay

bay view

Bronze statue group by John Clinch, Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay.

This sculpture, dating from 1993, is a celebration of the people of Cardiff Bay, also known as Tiger Bay, now transformed and revitalised as a visitor attraction.

The artist tells us that the woman of African origin sitting on the railing “reflects the diverse cultural and ethnic mix of the docks”. The working man “is a reminder of the once world-famous, busy port”.

And the dog? “The dog is for children to enjoy.”
